buraa kya hai...

4

Dil-e- naadaan thujhe huaa kya hai

Aakhir iss dard kee davaa kya hai.

Hum hain mushtaaq aur woh bezaar

Ya ilahee yeh maajra kya hai.

Main bhi munh mein zabaan rakhtha hoon

Kaash poocho ke muddaa kya hai

Jab ke thujh bin naheen koi maujood

Phir yeh hangaama aye Khuda kya hai

Yeh paree chahra log kaise hain

Gamza wo ishwah wo adaa kya hai

Shikne zulfe anbareen kyun hain

Nigah chashme soorma sa kya hai

Sabza-wo-gul kahaan se aaye hain

Abr kyaa cheez hai, havaaa kya hai.

Hum ko un-se wafa kee haye ummeed

Jo naheen jaante wafa kya hai.

Haan bhala kar bhala hogaa

Aur darvaesh kee sadaa kya hai

Jaan tum par nissaar karta hoon

Main naheen jaanta duaa kya hai.

Main ne maana ke kuch naheen Ghalib

Mufth haath aaye to buraa kya hai.

- Mirza Ghalib

English Translation -

Innocent heart, to you what has happened

After all to this pain is there a remedy.

I am vivacious and she is sad

Oh God, what is this happening.

I too have a tongue placed in my mouth

Were you to ask me, what is stolen.

When nothing exists without you

Why this tumult about what is God.

Who this angel faced people are

What is this ogling, coquetry and acting.

Why wrinkled locks are ambergris

Why the slanting, sprinkling eyes appear filled with collegian (surmah).

From where the vegetation and flowers have come.

What is cloud, what is wind.

To me is the belief in her sincerity

Who do not know what is fidelity.

Do good, good things will happen to you.

What else do the mendicants ever say.

I sacrifice my life for you

I do not know what prayer is.

I agree that there is nothing Ghalib

If you get it free what is the harm.

Bol ke lab azaad hain tere

4

A poem by Faiz Ahmed Faiz copied from “bol ke lab azaad hai tere”:

bol ke lab aazaad haiN tere
bol zabaaN ab tak terii hai
teraa sutvaaN jism hai teraa
bol ke jaaN ab tak terii hai
dekh ke aahaNgar kii dukaaN meN
tuNd haiN shole surKh hai aahan
khulne lage qufloN ke dahaane
phailaa har ek zanjiir kaa daaman
bol ye thoRaa vaqt bahut hai
jism-o-zubaaN kii maut se pahle
bol ke sach ziNdaa hai ab tak
bol jo kuch kehnaa hai keh le

English translation:

Speak up, while your lips (thoughts) are (still) free
speak up, (while) your tongue is still yours
Speak, for your strong body is your own
speak, (while) your soul is still yours
Look at blacksmiths shop
hot flames makes the iron red hot
opening the (jaws of) locks
every chain opens up and begins to break
speak for this brief time is long enough
before yours body and words die
speak, for the truth still prevails
speak up, say what you must.

Moonlight

8

The beautifully shining silvery light,

Comes down at night,

Bringing a message from Heaven,

To be true, to be kind,

Peeping from the branches of trees.

Watching everything good and evil,

Conveying the message of Heaven,

To be true, to be kind.

Coming down over the water,

Seeing the beautiful world,

Seeing people committing sin,

Amidst this pollution and din,

Conveying the message of Heaven,

To be true, to be kind.

I am the I in India

3

...I Read this article 2 years back...in a magazine in my college library...would luv to share it wid ya all ppl...

“I am The I in India...”

The day I was born in this country, thus country was also born in me. U can feel it running through my guts when I’m angry, throbbing through when I’m glad...

I am India and India is me...

Starting today, I have decided that I will not point fingers at anyone anymore. Instead, those fingers will be pointed at me.

I am the system that does not work. I am the pothole on the road that doesn’t get filled. I’m the FIR that doesn’t get filed. I am the bridge that doesn’t get built. Everything that’s wrong with this country starts with me. And will soon end with me...

...I am India and India is me...
